Open Source Gmini Firmware Project Accelerates
In September of 2000, Samsung entered into a million dollar contract with Redhat to port the GNU-Pro toolchain to the CalmRISC16 architecture. For some yet unknown reason, this code has remained unmerged and almost forgotten. The crew of the gmEmu project have negotiated with and obtained this code from Samsung, enabling them to continue their quest to create an open source firmware for the Archos Gmini series MP3 player, similar to what the Rockbox project did for the older Archos Jukebox player and recorder and Linav project did for the Archos AV3xx range.
People that are interested and can help reverse engineer the firmware or board, design & program a new kernel & applications, are welcome to have a look and join. The GNU-Pro toolchain, dating from 2001, can be downloaded there using a BitTorrent on the project's site.
